Squamish Environment Society embarked on the Squamish Estuary Education project in 2010. There are three components to the project: volunteer interpreters to provide basic information regarding the Squamish Estuary to residents and visitors; a series of signs that explain some of the wonders of the estuary; and a pamphlet for self guided explorations.
Volunteer Interpreters
The volunteer interpreters program included 6 nature walks with people knowledgeable about different aspects of the estuary. There was a training day held in October and volunteer guides shared their experience during a series of public walks in the fall of 2010.
A series of estuary walks is being planned for 2011.
Estuary Signs
A series of signs is being developed for the Chelem trail. Themes for the signs include: the tides, the sedges, birds of prey, the House pole, and site reclamation. It’s anticipated that the signs will be in place before the summer of 2011.
Estuary Brochure
An information guide is to be developed (replacing the out of print Squamish Estuary Trail Map of 1998).
