Squamish Birders main activities are the monthly estuary counts and the annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC).
Monthly Estuary Bird Count
Identify birds by sight and sound. Visit the Estuary’s hidden places, through all seasons, tides and weather! No experience necessary!
The Squamish Estuary has been divided into four count areas. Each area contains a mix of walking and/or driving. Habitats include: floodplain forest, rivers, sloughs, Carex sedge meadows, mud and open water.
The count takes between 4 and 6 hours depending on weather and number of birds. Results are tallied at the Brew Pub over lunch.
Meet at the Brew Pub located at the south end of Cleveland Ave in the Squamish town center – drive to the end of Cleveland, the Brew Pub is the big, beautiful building on the right.
Count leaders are local birders. Most have spotting scopes. Counts occur monthly, usually the second Sunday of the month, but if there is a holiday it’s changed to either the first or third Sunday, please check the calendar.
