All Eagle Watch volunteers for the 2009/2010 season are invited to a volunteer appreciation supper at The Brackendale Art Gallery on Saturday February 6th at 6pm. This is an evening to celebrate and evaluate our program and to acknowledge all the work our volunteers have done.

Understanding Bald Eagles


Facts:

  • Eagle Eye – Able to see the glint of a herring at ½ km, eagle’s eyes are 8 times sharper than a human’s with 20/20 vision.
  • Power Beak – Hooked and self-sharpening, this meat tearing tool is used tenderly in courtship.
  • Feather Light Bones – Hollow bones weigh less than half the weight of the eagles 7,000 feathers.
  • Designer Feet – Large, strong feet have tiny spikes that grip slippery fish.
  • Flight Control – Tail feather can be tilted or spread to function as a rudder or brake.

Volunteer Interpreter Program

Volunteer interpreters share their knowledge and love of bald eagles with people from around the world. This program is a wonderful way to learn about bald eagles, meet interesting people and have fun.

District Council is asking the Community for comments and feedback on these two issues:

  1. Sustainability Block - The Sustainability Block project proposes that a specific block (or cross-section of blocks) be redeveloped as a showcase of design innovations for streetscapes, landscapes, and technologies.
  2. "Proposed joint-venture run of river hydro-electric project" tell us what you think about the possibility of Squamish partnering on a Community Power Project.
  3. The 2008 Annual Report will also be available to the public.
