The two enthusiasts who were at the meeting place on time were both skiiers, so snowshoes were abandoned in favour of our X-country skis. There was real excitement in the air at Whistler Olympic Park, where more than 700 racers were readying or ‘flying’ past us. There nevertheless were quite a few animal tracks off trail, surprisingly close to the buildings and start area and near the extensive wetlands. The tracks were mainly snowshoe hare, but there was at least one marten. Over on the Callaghan Country side we were fortunate to enjoy a great ski up to Callaghan Lake in ideal conditions.
