Update: Mystery of the moss solved!

Our trip report for the November Nature Outing included a challenge to identify a mystery moss. (shown in the banner photo above)

The moss has now been identified as YELLOW CURL-MOSS (Homalothecium fulgescens). The moss is shiny, golden-green, fuzzy, and coarse. It forms spreading mats on trunks and branches of alder, cottonwood, and maple.
