Fall is just around the corner and our bears are looking forward to the return of the salmon. Starting in October, we hope to see our eagles returning to the banks of our rivers for spawned-out salmon, their key fall and winter food source.
To mark the return of the eagles, our EagleWatch program will be running its thirty-first season. The program will operate twice daily counts at Eagle Run dike in Brackendale from November 7 through January 2.
Katelyn West will be joining us for her seventh season as EagleWatch Coordinator. She has been busy organizing and has set up a form potential volunteers can use to express interest in helping monitor eagles and other wildlife. Here’s a link to the sign-up form.
If you’re interested but don’t have experience, you’ll be able to join a special social count from 10:00 to 11:00 am on November 7. This count will offer an introduction to eagle watching, a chance to learn how the counts are done and to get some tips from experts. If you don’t have your own binoculars, we’ll do what we can to loan you a pair for the season.
