Every spring includes clean-up events. Our long-time volunteer Carl has his own year-long clean-up. Being a creative soul, every year he assembles a collage of some of his findings. This past year he has given us two photos. The first is a general-purpose collection of some of the smaller, colourful things you might expect to see lost or discarded. Anyone looking for the mate of a lost glove?
This year’s special collage features pieces of steel collected since last October from our roadside bike lanes. The largest piece weighed over 5 lb, and Carl noted that there were way too many wheel nuts. Almost all the crescent- shaped pieces were collected near Leski’s Crossing (where Government Road crosses the CN Rail line at Olson Road). Perhaps overloaded vehicles taking that sharp corner too fast were breaking their springs. Speed litters?
We hasten to add that Carl recycles as much as possible of what he collects. If you see some litter, be inspired by his example. Pick it up and dispose of it responsibly.
