Since the award was created over three years ago, there have been no entries in the GVRSF from SD 48, and there are currently no local science fair programs. Therefore, the amount provided to the GVRSF to fund this award has been returned to SES. Donor Larry Murray has agreed that we will use the money to support participation by local students in our Bird-Friendly Squamish project.

Original Post:
SES has established a special award in the Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair (GVRSF). The award is for $200 per year, based on a generous donation by a member. It is available to students from Grade 7 to Grade 12 who live within the boundaries of Sea to Sky School District 48, for an outstanding project that investigates topics of wildlife and habitat preservation and sustainability of natural ecosystems in the Sea to Sky region. If a suitable project cannot be selected, the award will be deferred to the next year.
Students whose language of study is French may enter projects in French.
Registration for the 2019 fair closes on March 6, so it is probably too late for students to be ready to enter this year. Anyone who is interested in learning more about the fair could make a good start by attending the public viewing of this year’s projects at UBC’s AMS Student Nest, Saturday April 6, 9:00 am til noon.
