The frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone and Christmas is just around the corner. This holiday why not consider alternatives to buying new?
We love this image from Just Little Changes that suggests how we can give to others while reducing our impact on the environment. Some ideas below!
- Buy someone a membership to Squamish Environment Society ($25 single, $30 family).
- Make a donation to SES. Your donation supports a variety of projects that focus on biodiversity conservation in Upper Howe Sound. Tax receipts are available.
- Give an SES, hand-crafted (from recovered materials) bird house to a friend. With a gift of $75 or more you can choose from the available houses and also receive a tax receipt for the full amount of your gift.
- Share your nature knowledge with someone who wants to learn.
- Join the Biodiversity Squamish Project with a friend – and make a standing date to go exploring.
- Join the Monthly Bird Counts with a friend – learn from other birders and contribute valuable data for bird conservation.
- Become a Squamish Estuary ambassador. Encourage trail users to leash their dogs, leave vegetation in place, and stay on trails, to reduce impacts on estuary wildlife.
- Help a friend remove invasive species from their yard, or Naturescape their garden to provide habitat for birds and butterflies.
- Donate plants to the SES Pollinator Garden, or make a commitment to help with maintenance and watering.
- Buy an eagle art calendar from local photographer Brian Aikens. Price is $30.36 if picked up locally (Squamish Adventure Center or Sea to Sky Gondola). Part of the proceeds are donated to SES projects.
If you’re donating or giving a gift of service to the environment, tell us what you’d like to do and we’ll send you a printable gift certificate to represent your gift.
Please contact us to inquire about any of the “By Donation” items or if you have other questions.
And remember – we are surrounded by gifts everywhere we look!
