40 people gathered at Eagle Run dike on Saturday November 9, 2019 to open the 2019 – 2020 EagleWatch season. Mayor Karen Elliott, SES Chair Carl Halvorson, and Kirsten Sollid, a Squamish teacher who came with her family, spoke to the group about the importance of the eagles and the need to care for them. Art Harry and his daughter Samantha Baker offered the traditional welcome and blessing, and Art offered food to the eagles. Among those attending were Thor and Dorte Froslev from Brackendale Art Gallery and Bob McKay from Squamish Rafting, one of our our Sustaining Partners.
Immediately after the ceremony, Rob Leblanc and the volunteers scheduled for the first shift of the season scrambled to set up scopes and get the Interpretive Program rolling.
